URVOGEL _ LOVETAR _ SONIC WEARABLE

Custom-made sonic wearable, a dream realized by Huisujake. Synth dictated by motion detector. Audio consisting of samples from the Angel Tape album.
During the final performance in Vienna, the GND pin snapped off and was stuck inside the mini computer. This is not the end of Urvogel but quite the opposite.
Wait for the resurrection of the great shapeshifter!!!!

Meteōra [μετέωρα; metá, beyond + aeírō, I lift up, raise] means “airborne,” “floating in the air,” and points us to phenomena or composites between earth’s surface and sky dome. Meteōra Musikē centres the occurring of these subcelestial movements and sounds, articulating as proto-musical, and bridging matter and mind, the concrete and the imagined.

Roaming Schönbornpark like a bird, Merja will engage in tactile dialogue with the so-called ‘tech-trash’ of the Anthropocene and the eternal rhythms of the meteōra. Her archetype of an augur re-enchants the technological artifacts we discard, proposing a (post-)prosumer mythology where the ghosts in the machine learn to whistle with the wind.

This version of the performance took place four unannounced times in the 2-day festival. The character/performance was renamed “Urvogel”. It was interesting to take the action into a big space with multiple venues, but use mainly the transition areas.
Same day as the festival launched, the biggest newspaper of Finland had me on the cover.

With this version of URVOGEL,  I wanted to try a new approach for expanding the existing material. I was inspired by my own interview where I stated that when wearing the outfit I
“see myself as a kind of a DJ mixing music with my hand gestures”.
I decided to perform with two turntables. Two decs, two Angel Tape vinyls, sides A and B.
The performance started with the sounds of the album coming from these two different sources, the headpiece bluetooth speaker and the venue PA. I could slow down, speed up, pause and skip to next track by moving my hands, one at the front of the sensor, the other fiddling with the turntable.
It turned out that the speaker in my headpiece was not loud enough, so I spontaneusly took the hat off and gave it to an audience member. This expanded the sound in a interesting way as it wondered around in a gallery, carried by a stranger.

FANTASIA with Mental Alaska

Performing here felt like parading the catwalk. The audience was mainly standing on both sides of a long narrow corridor between the two main rooms. A new shamanic and witch-like sidepersona of LOVETAR kicked in, and honestly I don´t remember much of this evening. I was inside a whirlwind and spinning in circles until I collapsed and the music stopped.

First there was an invitation to perform in a church. I knew playing a standart Islaja set would suffer from the acoustics. I wanted to have an solo instrument, and move around in the enormous building, use the whole space, and not just stand up front. I started thinking of a costume, something that would visually suit the surroundings, and that would make somekind of sound. It turned out that Ulla had been thinking about crafting one. The process of creating the outfit took the whole spring and summer.
